Slate v2 Phase 9 Checkpoint

Supporting plan. For current queue and roadmap truth, see master-roadmap.md.

Goal

Use the current breadth of the compatibility matrix and the family ledger to decide whether the roadmap should keep defaulting to Phase 9 matrix widening or pivot to Phase 10 release-readiness.

Current Evidence

  • the replacement matrix now covers:
    • core anchor lifecycle
    • inline family
    • placeholder family
    • decoration/highlight family
    • anchor/projection family
    • plaintext/read-only editorial family
    • browser-boundary family
    • several broad legacy-only structural/editorial families
  • the family ledger now distinguishes:
    • preserved
    • redefined
    • comparison-only
    • intentionally later

Decision Question

Has Phase 9 reached the point where more default matrix farming is lower value than starting the Phase 10 release-readiness gate?

Decision

Yes.

Phase 9 is now broad enough that it should stop being the default queue.

Why:

  • the matrix now covers the anchor, inline, placeholder, decoration, anchor, editorial, browser-boundary, and several structural/media comparison families
  • the family ledger now distinguishes:
    • preserved
    • redefined
    • comparison-only
    • intentionally later
  • remaining family rows are now lower-leverage unless they materially change the replacement decision

So the default queue should pivot to:

  • Phase 10 release-readiness

while Phase 9 remains available only for selective follow-on work when a family row or benchmark would materially change the claim.
