Mobile app guide (Beta)

The OpenProject Mobile app (Beta) is available for iOS and Android. It is designed as a companion app to OpenProject’s web experience, giving you mobile access to essential project workflows so you can stay connected and productive when you’re away from your desk.

[!NOTE] The app is currently under active development. Some features are still evolving, and new capabilities will be added over time. We welcome feedback to help shape OpenProject Mobile.

Purpose and vision

The OpenProject Mobile app focuses on mobile-first workflows that complement the full OpenProject web application. With the mobile app, you can:

• Access your projects, meetings, and work packages on the go.
• React and respond quickly to updates and discussions.
• Stay informed about project progress, tasks, meetings, and deadlines.
• Track and log time directly in the app to keep reporting up to date.
• Use additional mobile-friendly flows to support work in the field, for example, capturing and attaching photos.

For complete functionality and administration, use the OpenProject web application.

What’s included in the current Beta

OpenProject Mobile is organized into modules. See the module guides for details:

Module	Description
Home Dashboard	Your personal overview of tasks, notifications, and project updates, giving you a quick snapshot of what matters most.
Work Packages	Create, view, and edit work packages directly from the app. Work packages are organized for quick access and easy collaboration.
Notifications	Receive updates about comments, mentions, and work package changes, ensuring you never miss an important activity.
Time Tracking	Track time spent on work packages, run timers in focus mode, and keep your reporting accurate and up to date.
Meetings	Access and react to meeting agendas, series, and details directly in the app.
Global search	Search across all the content available in the app from a single place.
Spaces	Browse your projects, access project-specific details, and stay on top of deadlines and activities.
User Settings	Configure your account, manage app preferences, and tailor notifications to suit your workflow.

Mobile-first capabilities

The OpenProject Mobile app includes features designed specifically for mobile devices:

• Attach photos directly from your camera: capture and upload images to work packages or comments—useful for documenting on-site work, progress, or issues in real time.
• Run timers (focus mode): track your work time with built-in timers that support accurate time logging.
• Configure modules and dashboards: customize what you see by enabling only the modules and views most relevant to you.
• Tablet specific navigation and interface: use an interface optimized for larger screens and tablet navigation patterns to make it easier to browse and work across the app on iPad/Android tablets.
• Integrated mobile app feedback flow: send product feedback directly from within the app (via user settings), making it easy to report issues or share suggestions while you work.
• Switch between instances without logging out: move between different OpenProject instances without having to fully log out and log back in each time.
• Touch-optimized navigation: a mobile-first interface built for smaller screens and quick interactions.
• OS-level widgets: you can place quick OS widgets on your phone’s home screen to work directly from outside the OpenProject app.

These mobile-specific capabilities enhance your ability to work efficiently, document instantly, and stay connected — all while maintaining focus and flexibility on the go.

What’s coming next

The mobile app is still evolving. The next focus areas include:

• Bringing more OpenProject core modules to mobile, such as Documents and Wikis
• Offline capability, to support working with limited or unreliable connectivity
• The mobile app supports a multi-device experience on tablets today. Additional device support is planned, including expansion toward desktop.
• Receive updates instantly with real-time push notifications as they happen, from mentions and comments to task status changes, ensuring you never miss important activity.

Feedback and Involvement

Your feedback helps improve OpenProject Mobile. If you encounter issues or have suggestions, you can:

• Use the flow to provide feedback directly from the app in user settings.
• Create a feedback work package directly in the OpenProject Community instance and assign it to Stream Mobile App.
