Cursor + Gemini Setup

Use your Google Gemini key so memory notes run off-plan (they do not spend your Claude subscription). You do not clone the repo.

Install

  1. Get a key at Google AI Studio.
  2. Run:
bash
npx claude-mem install

Pick Cursor, then pick Gemini as the memory provider and paste the key.

<Warning> `npm install -g claude-mem` is the library only. Always install with `npx claude-mem install`. </Warning>

Settings by hand (optional)

bash
mkdir -p ~/.claude-mem
cat > ~/.claude-mem/settings.json << 'EOF'
{
  "CLAUDE_MEM_PROVIDER": "gemini",
  "CLAUDE_MEM_GEMINI_API_KEY": "YOUR_GEMINI_API_KEY"
}
EOF

Then re-run npx claude-mem install so Cursor hooks and the worker are in place. Do not restart a healthy worker.

Restart Cursor

Close and reopen Cursor so hooks load.

Verify

Health: curl -s "http://127.0.0.1:${CLAUDE_MEM_WORKER_PORT}/api/health" (port also in ~/.claude-mem/.worker.port). Open the worker URL from install to see notes.

Models

ModelNotes
gemini-flash-latestDefault. Current GA Flash
gemini-flash-lite-latestCurrent GA Flash-Lite
gemini-3.5-flashPinned GA Flash
gemini-3.1-flash-litePinned GA Flash-Lite

To pin a model:

json
{
  "CLAUDE_MEM_PROVIDER": "gemini",
  "CLAUDE_MEM_GEMINI_API_KEY": "your-key",
  "CLAUDE_MEM_GEMINI_MODEL": "gemini-3.5-flash"
}

Rate limits depend on the model and whether billing is on in Google Cloud. Claude-mem spaces requests when billing is off. To turn off that extra throttle after you enable Google billing:

json
{
  "CLAUDE_MEM_GEMINI_BILLING_ENABLED": true
}

Troubleshooting

Key not configuredcat ~/.claude-mem/settings.json should show CLAUDE_MEM_PROVIDER gemini and your key.

HTTP 429 — wait, enable Google billing, or use OpenRouter.

Worker idle — read ~/.claude-mem/logs/worker-YYYY-MM-DD.log. Do not restart a healthy worker (the note queue is in memory).
