Configuration

Authelia

The following YAML configuration is an example Authelia client configuration for use with Grafana which will operate with the application example:

Application

To configure Grafana there are two methods, using the Configuration File, or using Environment Variables.

Configuration File

{{< callout context="tip" title="Did you know?" icon="outline/rocket" >}} Generally the configuration file is named grafana.ini. {{< /callout >}}

To configure Grafana to utilize Authelia as an OpenID Connect 1.0 Provider, use the following configuration:

ini
[server]
root_url = https://grafana.{{< sitevar name="domain" nojs="example.com" >}}

[auth.generic_oauth]
enabled = true
name = Authelia
icon = signin
client_id = grafana
client_secret = insecure_secret
scopes = openid profile email groups
empty_scopes = false
auth_url = https://{{< sitevar name="subdomain-authelia" nojs="auth" >}}.{{< sitevar name="domain" nojs="example.com" >}}/api/oidc/authorization
token_url = https://{{< sitevar name="subdomain-authelia" nojs="auth" >}}.{{< sitevar name="domain" nojs="example.com" >}}/api/oidc/token
api_url = https://{{< sitevar name="subdomain-authelia" nojs="auth" >}}.{{< sitevar name="domain" nojs="example.com" >}}/api/oidc/userinfo
login_attribute_path = preferred_username
groups_attribute_path = groups
name_attribute_path = name

Role Attribute Path

The role attribute path configuration is optional but allows mapping Authelia group membership with Grafana roles. If you do not wish to automatically do this you can just omit the role_attribute_path configuration option or GF_AUTH_GENERIC_OAUTH_ROLE_ATTRIBUTE_PATH environment variable.

The ways you can configure this rule value is vast, here is a simple example:

  • User's with the authelia group admin should be a member of the Grafana group Admin
  • User's with the authelia group editor should be a member of the Grafana group Editor
  • Everyone else should be a member of the Grafana group 'Viewer'

To achieve the above structure you would use the following role_attribute_path: contains(groups[*], 'admin') && 'Admin' || contains(groups[*], 'editor') && 'Editor' || 'Viewer'

See Grafana Generic OAuth2 Documentation: Configure role mapping for more information.
